Some recent faves to start me off...
Let me start with a warning: this blog will likely not remain on the topic of photography. This blog may contain gripiness, rants, a demented sense of humor and/or foul language on my part. This blog may be used on occasion (probably quite frequently) to show off the cuteness of my kids. Don't say you weren't warned. ;)
I guess since this is supposed to be a photography-centered blog, I will start off with a few of my recent faves. They probably aren't "technically" perfect, but they are mine nontheless and I happen to like them. So there!
Here is a recent fave of my daughter Kaitlyn. Nothing special, just a simple close-up of her but I just love it. It is so "her". She is the princess and she knows it. She definitely has her daddy and me wrapped around her little finger. But don't let that innocent face fool you. She has the fiery temper to match that red hair for sure!
Our sunsets here in Kentucky have been really pretty and dramatic lately. I couldn't resist taking this one the other day. I know composition-wise it could use a little help, but I had to take what I could get as I was shooting between the school and my neighbor's house and this is the little window of prettiness I could get. I really wanted this particular part of the sky, and I felt that if I drove elsewhere to get the shot I would miss the moment, the light was fading fast.
My family (well, my mom's side of the family) had their Christmas get-together yesterday. I managed to get a few decent pics despite the flourescent lighting (yuck!). I know these aren't the most professional either, but they mean a lot to me. My grandparents are both in their 80's, so I felt the need to get as many pics of them as possible. This one, they didn't realize I was taking their picture. They were just embracing each other and I thought it was so sweet!
I also got this one of my sister and my grandma, kind of a candid moment. They were having so much fun, just talking and laughing!
This is also my new fave of my sister's (above) son. He is one year old, and ALL BOY! I could just get lost in those big blue eyes...
My grandpa (above) had surgery today. He had to have his pacemaker replaced with a combination pacemaker/defibrillator. My grandma begged the docs to wait until after Christmas, but they insisted that it had to be done right away, so it must have been bad. The surgery was this morning, and it all went well but there is still a risk of complications. So if you are the praying type, any help we can get is greatly appreciated. I realize everyone has to go sometime, but (at risk of sounding stingy) I am not ready for him to go yet! December is a really hard month for my family, especially my grandma. She lost her first husband in December (over 50 years ago), and my uncle (her son) passed away in December 6 years ago. So this has been especially hard on her.
So anyway, that's all I can come up with right now since I just burned all my photos onto discs and deleted them to free up room on my hard drive. I'll have to go back through them later and get a few other faves off to post here, there are tons of better ones than the ones I just posted.
But you will soon see that I still have a ways to go as far as my skills are concerned. For now I am just soaking in all the info I can find, and practicing 'till my poor kids can't stand it anymore! They are already pretty sick of me shoving the camera in their faces all the time. Hopefully, in the next year or so, I can start portfolio building and taking in some paying jobs, but I know I'm not quite ready for that yet. I have taken pics for my family (for free of course!) but I don't feel confident enough to do it for strangers yet. I'm getting there! I guess this blog will kind of track my progress and later I can look back and laugh at how bad I was!
